After graduating top of class from ESMOD PARIS in 2011, designer Takaaki Shimase started activities under the brand name “tac:tac” in 2013. Before his S/S14 collection debut, the designer was taken under the personal guidance of Issey Miyake and tac:tac is part of the Issey Miyake Group Company (A-net), which has allowed the label to realize its full potential in the Japan market. In 2017, Takaaki Shimase was nominated as one of the final candidates for the highly prestigeous Prize in Japan: the Mainichi Fashion Grand Prix, Newcomer Prize. Previous winners include Facestasm and Sacai. The brand name derives from “Time”: defined as something mutually shared, but perceived differently by individuals. tac:tac’s spirit aims to propose ready-made garments that symbolically communicates something about the wearer. The distinctive balance and ambience of tac:tac’s garments, being characteristic but yet basic, is achieved by adopting and combining certain trends into the designer’s unique cutting methods and hihgly sensible selection of textiles. Despite being a designer brand, tac:tac’s vision is to be moderately exciting, anonymous and symbolic.
